Statement of Purpose
Primary Purpose of the General Service Office Guyana (GSOG):
The primary purpose of the General Service Office Guyana is to serve as a central body that provides support, guidance, and resources to all A.A. groups within Guyana. It exists to facilitate communication, maintain group records, coordinate service activities, and uphold the principles and traditions of A.A., ensuring that the message of recovery is effectively carried to the still-suffering alcoholic. The GSOG operates independently of GIAA, while collaborating where appropriate, to strengthen unity and promote consistent service throughout the fellowship.
The General Service Office Guyana recognizes its autonomy and holds no authority over any individual A.A. group or service activity. Its decisions and actions are limited to matters directly related to the operations and functions of the GSOG itself, ensuring that it serves the fellowship without overstepping the independence of individual groups.
The following is an excerpt from the Guyana Intergroup of Alcoholics Anonymous (GIAA) Bylaws:
General Service Office Committee: The General Service Office Committee is autonomous and it’s role is to inform Guyana Intergroup as to the news and updates of Guyana General Service Office, REDELA (Meeting of the Americas), and World Services in an effort to keep members aware of their participation at the level of world service.
The General Service Committee shall:
a. Attend General Service functions and, when permitted, deliver a report on behalf of GIAA; and
b. To the extent permitted, liaise with the aforementioned entities.
